Locations: Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden
When people come to New York City, whether they realize it or not, they’re thinking about Midtown Manhattan. You know I love my UES neighborhood, but let’s be real, there’s just much more to see and do for tourists and Lewis & Clarke NYCers in Midtown. With this in mind, the Empire State Realty Trust has been working on – and finally launched! – an app dedicated to everything Midtown.
Destination Midtown is a free app available for both iOS and Android users that offers walking tours, insider knowledge and direct links for ticketed tours all in one place. For someone who spends 40 hours a week in Midtown, I have to admit, I don’t explore the area at all. After going on the Press voyage yesterday, I have to say I’m really excited this app exists. I caught myself playing around with it on the subway…pre-planning trips for my lunch breaks and for when visitors are in town.
The tour we took yesterday was of 34th Street. Starting with breakfast at State Grill & Bar in the Empire State Building (the cheesy potatoes were bombdotcom), we then went all the way to the top! I’d only have ever been to the ESB when I was like 10, so I appreciated seeing all of the changes in the skyline from above.
Afterward, we got a special BTS tour of Madison Square Garden. If you watched my Instastory, you’d see me using emoji stickers to pretend to be Kobe (is he even on the Knicks? I don’t know). ANYWAY, then we went over to B&H, the famous camera store near the Garden. There, we watched drones of all sizes fly around and some people even experimented with virtual reality goggles…not my thing.
Moral of the story: I highly recommend this app for tourists and New Yorkers alike. It’s free, it doesn’t need to send you notifications all day, and it’s informative when you feel like using it. You never know…you may stumble across something on a tour that makes you the Trivia Queen at your bar table!
