*Note: I chose this photo, even though it’s from last year, because it perfectly captures two of my biggest constant goals year after year: travel and reading.
“Time flies!” is definitely an overused phrase in my life, but at the same time, to me, time really does fly. I cannot believe we’re halfway through the year already! I didn’t really set goals for 2018 in the beginning of the year as I usually do, so I kind of wanted to do a brief check-in here, share how I think the year is going and see what you guys are up to.
I’ve always been fond of giving back…but this year I’ve upped my commitments and reach. Under my belt, I have my Pajama Program affiliations, multiple sustainability pledges, volunteer experiences with animals and support for JDRF.
I’ve made a drastic change to my living situation. I am so happy and proud of the time I spent living in both Manhattan and Boston, but I’m also happy to take a step back to determine a more long-term living investment. More here.
I’ve changed my outlook on social media. Yes, yes, yes, I still care about the aesthetics of my Instagram…but I did that before I started this blog too. However. I miss scrolling through my photos and seeing memories, not just beautiful images. Mixing it up and bringing it back to real. Hope you’re okay with seeing it all!
I’ve read over 20 books. One that I read became an instant new favorite, that I’ve recommended over and over: Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren. Everything else I’ve read so far is here.
I’ve updated my budget and cut my spending. Lack of rent payments aside (thank you Mom & Dad, see my living situation update), I sat down with a financial advisor (and friend, if you want his info, let me know!) and came up with the proper budget for payments, spending and saving.
Continue finding ways to reach out and help others, and lessen my carbon footprint.
Even without vacation days, I have a ton of trips still planned for 2018! Adios, New York, because I won’t see you again for a weekend until mid-September 🙂 I’m so excited…some of the places I’ve got coming up are Scituate, Scottsdale, Cape May and Aruba!
I’m remembering that I’m a multi-dimensional human being, who doesn’t have to share only one side with the world at a time. Let’s hang out.
Gotta hop to it reading, because I set a goal of 50 books for the year and Goodreads kindly informed me I’m 4 books behind schedule.
Continue to get my finances in order…I always knew money was stressful but at the same time, I didn’t realize how overwhelmed I was by it until I looked it straight in the eye and set a plan. Really excited to practice safer money and enjoy life a little less preoccupied by it.
So that’s me so far! I’ve missed my list of goals…they play a great role as a general road map for the year for me. Next year. At New Year’s Eve 2017, my sister and I cheersed both saying how we felt excited about 2018. We had that bubbly feeling – not from the champagne – that it was going to be a great year for both of us, and so far definitely so good. I’d be lying if I said every day is a walk in the park, or that didn’t still have improvements to make or things to change and learn, but that’s all part of it. My eyes are still open, and my gut (just watched Scandal, remember?) still feels the bubbling excitement for the second half of the year.
There’s a lot of horror going on in the world we live in, and I can totally understand and appreciate having a difficult time feeling the excitement and joy without a semblance of guilt or anger. I feel it too. Do your part, whether it’s a protest, rally, donation, hug, whatever it is, and continue being you. If everyone does a little something, eventually, there will be change.
So now your turn…can you think of a few ways you’ve changed your life this year so far? What are your plans for the second half of 2018?
