Wow guys! I can’t believe the amount of messages I’ve received since sharing my venture into herbal formulas! For those of you who missed it, I did an Instagram story a couple of months ago about incorporating herbal remedies into my life for anxiousness. (I also said I feel cool for having a herbalist, which is totally still true.)
Anyway, the feedback rivaled that of when I shared my Away luggage. I love when you guys are involved! I basically got variations of the two following questions: whether or not I’m okay, and if the formulas help.
First of all, yes I’m okay! Thank you for asking. But, when I am under a lot of pressure, or have a conflict to resolve, or I find anything overwhelming or stressful, it takes over me completely. I can become highly dramatic and sometimes unreasonably stubborn in the moment…but then I’m fine. That’s why when an herbalist opened Found Herbal Apothecary in my hometown, I decided to see if she had anything that would help in these moments of stress.
Turns out she – and lots of you guys! – experience the same symptoms. Jess (the herbalist) said that all of the symptoms described above may come from an unsettled nervous system. Here’s what she recommended, what I’ve been using.
Sleep Oil: to calm the mind and body for sleep. Made with organic chamomile, organic lavender flowers, organic rose petals, vitamin E, grape seed oil, organic hops, organic passionflower, organic lemon balm, chamomile essential oil, sweet orange essential oil, cedardwood essential oil, lavender essential oil
Use: I’m using the Sleep Oil most of all. Every night, as I change into my pajamas, I really enjoy putting the oil on my chest and wrists. I sleep with my hands under my head so it’s soothing to breathe the oil in as I drift off.
Root Chakra Balm
Root Chakra Balm: to balance my root chakra, responsible for sense of self, instincts and connection to nature. Made with cinnamon, ginger, buckroot, alkanet root, grapeseed oil, essential oil blend
Use: I keep the Root Chakra Balm in my work bag, and anytime throughout the day I become overwhelmed, I rub a little behind my ears. Whenever I get a whiff of it (it smells like nature), I feel like I’m being taken out of my own head and back into the present space.
Magnesium supplements: to settle the nervous system. Available anywhere you get your vitamins.
Use: I also take the Magnesium supplements before bed. To be honest, I have no idea if they work; all I can say is I have been getting the best sleep the past few weeks.
Overall, it hasn’t been that long, but I have noticed I can gain a sense of calm a lot faster than I could before starting these things.
Note: An herbalist can make formulas to suit individual needs, so if you have access to one, I highly recommend a consultation.
Any more questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
