So this morning, I was on the train, excited to have a week where I knew I could keep my spending at a minimum. Then, the conductor gets on the loudspeaker and says, “Everyone, it’s July…your June passes will not work today.” And I realized I completely forgot June was over! That flew by!
I had a really busy June, once I realized it was time to reflect on it (an hour ago). There has been so much to celebrate, along with getting settled into my new routine and planning out the rest of the summer. Anyway, here’s what I relied on most in June, and I’ll admit some are repeats from other months.
To-Go Cup for Iced Drinks: Mine is from Starbucks years ago, but I recently remembered I also have the Yeti lid and straw for my gigantic pink mug! These not only help you cut back on spending, but you can make your coffee the way you like, and also…they’re better for the environment. Win. Win. Win. Also…I’ve been buying the Starbucks jug of Blonde Roast iced coffee from the grocery store and it’s perfect for the work week.
Loofa: Now that it’s full-fledged bare-skin weather, I’ve upped my loofa/lotion game. I can get a little lazy with the extra shower scrub and full-body moisturizing sometimes, but in the warmer months, there’s a noticeable difference in my skin and ability to shave when I put the effort in.
Running Shorts: aka, my at-home uniform. I do actually go for a run every day, but I wear these as lounge shorts. I think because I don’t have Sofee shorts anymore (remember those?!). that I gravitate towards these, but regardless, the point is: it’s hot, get comfy.
Jack Rogers: These are the shoes I lived in all month. I would wear them every single day, but sometimes, my tendonitis feet need something a little more supportive. I’ve written a guide for breaking them in here.
LL Bean Large Tote: I bought this for grocery shopping purposes when I lived in the city, and it’s still holding up…but with more purpose now. Now with my longer commute, it’s easier to stuff the tote with everything I need on a busy day (usually Mondays, when I restock my snack drawer, bring my Manhattan errands back to the city, etc.) than to carry multiple smaller totes. The LL Bean large is quite large, but it’s great to gift (you can pre-pay for monogramming and the recipient can pick their own), and can be used for grocery shopping, the beach, as a carry-on for travel and like I’ve been…for errands in general.
Beach Books: This is not one specific book per-say, but now that we’re packing our beach bags with summer reads, I thought I’d list a few of my favorite summer authors: Kristy Woodson Harvey (Peach Tree Bluff Series), Mary Alice Monroe (The Beach House Series), Hannah McKinnon, Mary Kay Andrews and Elin Hilderbrand.
Scandal on Netflix: I know I’m so late to the game here, but I had stopped watching Scandal after season four. Early on in June I decided I wanted to close out the series, and I finished yesterday. My biggest take-away: the character of Abbey has the best work wardrobe.
Social Media: I’ve honestly been trying to limit my social media screen time (you’ll notice I haven’t been posting that often). It’s easy to get ~fomo~ as the kids say, with everyone’s fun vacation plans and everything, so I’d rather take a step back and enjoy my own, just posting and scrolling here and there.
