First off, sorry for the strange, kind-of-awful photo. It was taken for social media and now I’m using it impromptu here.
For those of you who follow along on Instagram, you may notice I have had a lot of reasons to dress up this year. I love a good event: I think they’re fun, I love seeing random people, a poppin’ dance floor, and of course, getting dressed up. However, there’s always that whole “I can’t wear this dress again, I’ve already worn it to three things” debacle.
Enter: wardrobe sharing. There are professional ways to do this, such as Rent the Runway. I know many people have had success with this, but I don’t like it. It makes me nervous that the dresses come so close to the event, and I can’t check them out or try them on beforehand. Too much anxiety for me.
Instead, I opt to and recommend you share with those you know. If you’ve got some people in your life who are around your size, raid their closets. I’m serious! Between my sisters, mom and best friend, I haven’t had to buy a new dress yet in 2017 (‘yet’ being the key word) and it’s the end of October.
The catch: all of the pretty ladies I share dresses with and I have different styles. While a dress my sister buys may not be something I’d pick out in the store, with my shoes, makeup and accessory preferences, I can pull together a look that works for me, for a night out. The same goes vice versa!
I recommend that you never borrow a whole wardrobe (dress, shoes, jewelry, bag). You won’t feel like yourself throughout the night, and then it becomes hard to really enjoy yourself. Stick with one piece. As long as you have go-to shoes (mine are these in nude and black), you can pretty much get away with wearing anything!
Would you share your clothes? It’s fun!
