Regularly, I strive for an 80-20 ratio of daily wellness (80 = healthy, 20 = let freedom ring dark chocolate covered Swedish fish!). On vacation, I more or less keep up with that because I naturally choose the healthier lifestyle. And yet, when I’m on vacation, my structured lifestyle still kiiinda goes out the window. My exercise – ordinarily mix of classes – becomes lots of walks of exploration, maybe even a run or two, and I like to try a location-specific class if there’s one available. My eating, well, I like to try new things but also try to avoid stomachaches.
In Aruba, there are two yoga studios I love and highly recommend. There are also smoothie and health food places that are awesome for daytime meals and snacks. My sister is going to compile a full guide to eating well in Aruba, but here are my faves:
For the past three years, my mom, sisters and I have been going to Happy Buddha. The studio is in the residential area of Aruba, connected to Corinne (the owner/instructor)’s house. The classes are always amazing, and because Aruba is 100 degrees, it always feels like you’re in a heated class. Fun fact: Happy Buddha is the only place I’ve ever done a headstand!
You may recognize this studio’s name because it’s sorta famous. Rachel Brathen, or Yoga Girl, as she’s more well-known, finally opened her studio on the island and it’s incredible. We booked in advance to be sure we were in Rachel’s class, and I was so pleased with the flow and her playlist.
Island Yoga also has a cafe attached…Nourish Cafe. The coffee is excellent, and the menu of juices and greens was also tough to choose from. Only problem is, you need to take a cab here from the hotels.
This is a situation of me saving the best for last. Eduardo’s is my absolute fave. Located right on the beach connected to the Playa Linda hotel, it’s a short walk from the Marriott and no clothes required. The acai bowls are to die for and the juices are the perfect jolt of life after a day in the crazy hot sun. My mom loves the energy balls, but I could do without ’em. Another fun fact: Eduardo’s is the first place I’ve ordered and finished a whole green juice!
